Tips to Help Learn French from Audio Materials

Edit Article |

]]>

A lot of people decide to try to learn French from audio materials. There are many different choices available for this pursuit. Some of them employ rote memorization techniques. These are the CDs that you buy that encourage you to say things like “Bonjour Mademoiselle Dupree” over and over again. These are great choices if your need for French never extends beyond saying hello to someone or asking where a good restaurant is. If you want to learn a bit faster, a lot more thoroughly and in a more interesting way, consider narrative materials.

It’s easier to learn French from audio materials that engage you beyond the learning experience. One of the most effective ways to get people involved in language learning is to start telling them stories in the target language. This allows the student to get into the story and to avoid concentrating on the completely natural sense of frustration that oftentimes accompanies learning a new language. It also makes it easier for students to remember the vocabulary and word-usage, as they’ll have a context to remember it in. This is very important as half of learning a new language is finding a way to remember what you learn with every lesson.

You can learn French from audio most anywhere. If your house tends to be full of distractions, consider listening in the car a bit. If you homeschool your children, you can oftentimes teach yourself at the same time that you teach them. By listening to these audio materials together, you can decipher the story and easily recall the new words and rules of language that you and your student learned. Learning with someone is sometimes the best way to teach them. They get the benefit of your experience; you get the benefit of their energy.

There are good materials that allow you to learn French from audio materials that don’t cost a fortune. These are good choices for anyone who wants to learn, whether they’re learning on their own or as a part of their homeschooling of their own children. Learning a second language is a huge advantage in life. It also allows you to better understand many things about the world and the people in it. French is so widely spoken that you’ll have little trouble finding chances to use it, and to enjoy speaking it.

Teaching French to Learn French

Edit Article |

Any teacher will tell you that they learn a lot from their students. Oftentimes, the most successful lessons that teachers convey are those when they’re learning the subject matter at the same time that they’re teaching it. Teaching French to learn French is a fine way to introduce yourself to the language and to help your students learn a new skill. If you homeschool your own children, you shouldn’t let a lack of prior experience prevent you from exploring another language with them. In fact, you should take that as a good reason to try.

When you teach French, you learn French because of having to become an expert. Sometimes, this requirement will drive people to learn more quickly and to take a deeper interest in what they’re learning. This inspiration, like a good cabaret song, is contagious. There are other ways to make learning a language more effective, as well. One of the most effective ways involves employing music and storytelling as ways of making lessons stick better and, more importantly, as ways of generating enthusiasm for the task at hand.

Simple, somewhat repetitive songs are excellent tools for teaching French. To learn from these materials all you need to do is listen. Listening to and remembering songs is natural for human beings. It’s also harder to forget a catchy tune than it is to remember it. Our brains naturally lock onto melodies and melody can serve as a great way to stimulate our minds into remembering words and phrases. If you think about it, there have probably been times in your life when you remembered the words to a song by humming or singing the memory. The idea with language instruction in this way is the same: The song provides the cue to the memory.

Teaching French to learn French may be just the way to make your French homeschool a bit more effective. While children can absorb a lot of information, there is the caveat that you’d better make it interesting for them if you want it to be something they retain. Songs and stories are great ways to make learning French seem like a diversion rather than drudgery. It also tends to foster better retention of what’s learned and better understanding of what’s heard, due to the fact that the language is heard in actual use with an actual context that makes it engaging.

Important Considerations for Learning French Fast

If you’re trying to learn French fast, you need to make sure you’re at least getting good instruction from your materials. Some materials lend themselves to incomplete or incorrect instruction. For example, some courses will give you an audio recording of someone speaking French words.

There are products for homeschoolers that enable you to learn French online along with your students, or simply to provide the resource for them to use. These products are not all made equally and not all of them are as effective as the others. In general, the least effective are those that encourage reading before listening and speaking. In fact, it’s usually more effective to keep the listening and speaking components, to add a singing component and to scrap the reading portion until the student has a good grasp on the language.

Online learning, because of the format, is largely reading-driven. This is fine for more advanced students, but language is easy to muddle if you’re learning it from the written word and you haven’t much speaking experience. It’s fine to teach a student the French vowel sounds but be aware that, when they start reading French, they’ll likely be substituting various English vowel sounds in their heads and this can lead to bad habits. Music, specifically singing, is a great way to give kids an advantage where pronunciation and comprehension of the written word are concerned.

For homeschoolers, there is always the challenge of learning new materials without a large body of other students to provide cues to those who fall a bit behind. Singing is a good way to make up for this. Our speaking voices are adapted to our native tongues; this is where accents come from. You can learn French online and still develop excellent pronunciation habits by learning simple songs that teach basic words and phrases. Your singing voice is not so attached to the conventions of your first language and, therefore, it’s easier to learn new pronunciations by singing them than it is by speaking them, in many cases.

There is the additional benefit that the best programs that allow you to learn French online through music employ musical theater. Musical theater is one of the most enduring ways to tell a story. The songs reinforce the major plot points and the story keeps the listeners engaged between songs. Where language is concerned, the songs also reinforce the major points of the lesson in a way that isn’t at all tedious, making it easier for students to keep alert, absorb what they’re hearing and, in the future, to recall what they heard and what they learned.

Providing French homeschool lessons can be a challenge. Fortunately, there are resources that can help children to learn French online and some truly innovative products that make the entire process much easier. These programs oftentimes incorporate music, a powerful educational tool that is left out of most language programs. Learning to speak French is no easy endeavor, but learning to sing French can be a lot of fun, in addition to being one of the most effective ways to foster comprehension and retention of the lessons given.

A French homeschool lesson can be a lot more fun than a public school lesson. For one thing, there’s sometimes the factor of the teacher perhaps not being a fluent French speaker themselves. Far from being a hindrance, this can be a lot of fun. Learning with your children is a great way to teach them. Instead of just teaching them the materials involved with the lesson, you’re actually teaching them how one goes about learning a new thing. You can make this part of your lesson plans, learning to speak French along with your children and having fun the whole time.

A French homeschool lesson can also be much more profound than a standard public school lesson. Because singing, music and stories are involved, there is cause for the child to learn beyond passing their exams. You can make it truly fun by following along with the story, seeing where the twists and turns of the plots lead and, most importantly, noticing your own progress along the way. As you understand more about the lessons, you’ll find that you understand more of what’s being said and that you become sensitive to subtleties in the language that usually take a very long time to even notice, much less comprehend.

Teaching French in homeschool classrooms is well worth the effort. There are over 80 nations where this language is spoken as a means of fostering commerce and understanding. In some of these nations, people speak other languages in addition to French and French serves as the lingua franca. If you hope that, someday, your child will be able to travel the world, you’ll find that you’ve equipped them well by teaching them this important language. The best way to go about it starts with having the best materials possible, and these oftentimes employ innovative techniques, such as music.
