How Your Child Can Make The Transition From Home School To College

You may be wondering if home schooling is a good idea for a child that has outgrown their youth and are now in their latter teens. As thoughts about college arises and it’s time to think about continued education, some parents feel that attending a public or private high school is necessary for college admission. But this is not true at all.
In fact, Harvard has accepted in the past 2 kids that were home schooled into their degree programs. Most colleges are aware that home schooled kids can have educational advantages as opposed to their counterparts in high school, so they are open to the possibility of accepting home schooled kids.
Most colleges are more interested in the knowledge of the student rather than a diploma, so you should keep this in mind. In fact, some colleges prefer homeschoolers because of the diversity and personality that they bring to the college campus.
Some colleges don’t care about tests at all while some require the use of the SAT. Criteria will vary but you should know that alot of college courses don’t require a high school background.
Even if you think that you should send your kids off to high school, you should know that college is available to your teen via general admission or even attending college online.
Going to college online will further the home schooling experience while allowing you to continue to help your child with their work. It all depends on your child’s preference and learning style. They can attend a college via the comfort of their bedroom, and come out with a 100% valid college education.
You can save on college costs dramatically using this option and your child may even learn better since there are so many audio and visual aids that they be available to them.
Going to college has it benefits and disadvantages but the biggest thing that you need to weigh is whether or not you want to sacrifice your child’s social life for the cost of the education. If you’re child is fine with the fact that they may not meet alot of friends via an online school, and has the “big picture” of life after college in mind – then maybe going to school online is best for them.
Complicated subjects can be immediately handled via the use of online help and resources, so there are alot of advantages to going to college online. To help with your child’s social life, they may want to get a part-time job to earn some income and to meet new friends and mingle. This can make up for lost time at college and will definitely help with their social life.
No matter what you choose, you should know that college is definitely an option for home schoolers. You just have to get the proper paperwork out to apply and your child will be good to go. If you have prepared your child correctly for college and has taught them virtually everything they need to know, then you should have no problems. You should have them take the SAT during their sophomore or junior year to see where they stand from a collegiate level.
Be sure to keep these things in mind when thinking about college for your child. College is definitely an option.

You made a decision to remove your child from institutional education. Your decision was based on several very good reasons. And if you are like most homeschooling parents, you were happily rewarded for your decision. Homeschoolers’ grades average two years ahead of public school students’ grades. In addition, homeschooled children have proved to be more socially adaptive than their public school counterparts.
Avoid Dangerous Environments
Each of the reasons you originally had for homeschooling your child are intensified as you consider college. Humanism, rationalism, secularism, and hedonism run rampant on most American campuses, even Christian colleges. Some of these schools have teachers and programs that actively promote these harmful lifestyles. Why suddenly expose your child to these trap-falls? It is important to choose a college that will not put your child in danger or overly expose them to temptation. You can also choose a college that allows you to continue homeschooling.
Continue An Education Method That Works
Additionally, when you homeschooled your child, you personalized their education and made their curriculum specific to the child’s needs and talents. That’s one of the great advantages of homeschooling over traditional education. So, why now expose your child to a learning approach in college that will take him years to overcome (if he ever overcomes it at all)? Why not continue that quality decision to bring superior education directly into your home through books, videos, cassettes, and the internet? Let proven Christian professors help you mentor your child as he emerges into adulthood in the safety and purity of your home, rather than the bastions of humanism and rebellion which pervade most American campuses.
Following God’s Direction
You chose the best, years ago. Now, why not stay with the best decision, and carry out God’s mandate for PARENTS to train up their children? Perhaps God’s way is best after all. We know it sounds far-fetched to our secularized minds. But most of us know that by honoring God’s ways, we come out far ahead in life, regardless of how distanced from current sociological trends God’s principles and ways appear. Why not continue your experiment in educating your child God’s way, and prove to your society that God was right all along?
There Are Other Options
There are many Christian colleges and Christian theology seminaries that offer online or distance learning courses. These options allow your child to continue their studies at home and gain the insight and education from college professors. Additionally, some online Bible colleges offer the LAMAD education format which can allow your child to avoid the flawed traditional education method and excel in their learning.
Just because your child is getting ready to attend college, doesn’t mean that you have to abandon the things that caused you to choose homeschooling in the first place. Do some online searches and find a Christian university which offers online courses and teaches with methods that work.

A high school diploma is an important factor in getting a job, retaining it, and deciding your income. However, many people start their jobs without one-due to various reasons. Is there any solution to this problem then? How can you earn your diploma in a more convenient, more flexible way?
Yes, the online programs have made it possible. Moreover, look at the benefits as well! There are more benefits to get from an online diploma than from any traditional way-that is from a high school, physically. These benefits are:
Increased opportunities
More courses are available on the online program than a conventional high school diploma offers. The students are able to choose from various disciplines that they would like to study. Of course, studying subjects that are more to a student’s liking ensures more attention and efforts on part the student, thus ensuring success. This also helps charting the right course of your career right from the start; and setting it right if it has gone the wrong way.
The informal setting
You can study to earn your diploma in an informal setting, without getting conscious about, say your formal appearance, your habits and ways, like in the conventional high school setting. This is especially helpful for the sensitive students who might be put off in a high school setting.
The convenience you were looking for
In some cases, it is not possible to earn your diploma in a conventional high school setting due to the breaks. This is true if you are continuing your education along with a job to support your income, or with some family responsibilities like rearing your children, or even a change of location. In the traditional high school setting, such problems means a break in the education that leaves them helpless without the diploma they were almost about to earn. Online diploma programs provide you with a convenience and flexibility that helps find a way to continue studies and thus helping you earn a diploma. Not to forget, the convenient time as opposed to strict time schedule in a high school setting.
Learning at your pace!
The learning ability is greatly differed among the students. In a traditional high school setting, quick learners outshine the rather slow ones, sometimes giving birth to doubts about their abilities. This in turn causes the slower ones to question the learning process, thus making it difficult to earn a diploma. Now with online diploma program, you can learn at your own pace effectively, thereby making your learning process catch speed. The different methods of learning available in these programs helps increase your learning speed, thus making it an enjoyable experience.
Provides a secluded corner, if you prefer
Some shy or rather sensitive students find it difficult to learn in more boisterous, traditional high school atmosphere. Such students find it difficult to take part in routine learning processes such as asking questions, if they want something explained or elaborated. A class bully may make their learning experience a nightmare. This way, if they prefer, they can learn from a “secluded corner”, untroubled by such obstacles, thus enjoying their learning experience. They can achieve great success, maintaining a “cocoon” existence.
See how your getting a diploma is click-easy, thanks to the Internet!

How to Benefit From Online Education Courses

Do online courses sound appealing to you? What about just taking an online class or two rather than working towards an online degree? Online courses may be taken while you work full time or even if you attend a regular college or university. You can work at your own pace and at various times of your choosing depending on what’s most convenient to you. Classes are typically online for 30 days per session and and take 18 hours to complete. The site www.Online-Education.net is a great resource to use. They have over 600 online classes to choose from in their catalog.
There are many good reason to consider taking courses online.
1. Eliminate boredom! When the kids are in school, do you find that you’re bored? Take an online education course! You could try something new like cooking, photography, building websites, drawing, or anything that interests you.
2. Learn something new! Learn to do your own taxes or use a new computer program. Get new ideas for gardening or homeschooling or improve your communication and writing skills. Perhaps astronomy, religion, or genealogy will spark your interest. Men enjoy courses on tying flies (for fishing lures), stamp collecting, and history.
3. Meet some new friends or re-connect with old ones! Online courses provide good opportunities to make new friends and share experiences with your old friends. Get a friend to enroll in a course with you; you’ll have a wonderful time!
4. Improve your self-esteem! After learning a new skill, your self-esteem will soar. The new sense of accomplishment will enrich your life and encourage you to try other online courses.
5. Re-ignite your brain! Get your brain in shape. Take a few hobby or informational courses and get used to working online, remembering details, and completing projects.
6. Prevent Alzheimer’s Disease. Keeping your brain active will help prevent dementia and, possibly, Alzheimer’s Disease as you get older. Scott Gottlieb, New York newspaper writer, states that, “Participating in mentally challenging leisure activities such as reading and playing board games may help elderly people stay mentally sharp.” Researchers have found that people aged 75 years or more who engaged in leisure activities had a lower risk of dementia than other elderly people. (New England Journal of Medicine 2003; 348:2508-16).
7. Become a more interesting person. When you attend various functions such as PTA meetings you’ll have some interesting conversation to share.
8. Provide your children and family with a great role model. Adults who demonstrate life-long learning are wonderful role models for children, who learn that education continues to benefit us all through life.
9. Learn more about technology. Any time we use a computer, we learn more about technology and how to use it effectively.
10. Improve your resume. The information you learn via online courses might be a great addition to your resume and help you get a better job or more pay.
Pay attention to my roundup of reasons for taking online education courses and you may be surprised at the benefits you experience!

Homeschool Software Can Turn Homeschooling from Boring to Fun!
Most children would agree that introducing computer games into their school day would definately make their homeschooling fun! But before you go ahead and buy any computer programs, you need to answer this question: will my child actually benefit? In other words, every child learns differently. Some children may not be suited to online learning. Once you’ve determined that computer learning will be beneficial, now comes the hard part – how do you choose the subject(s) your child will use computer software to learn? And once you’ve decided THAT, how do you choose from the bazillions of programs available? It seems that the decisions never end, but trust me, that this is the hardest part. Once you’ve gotten past this point, you’ll quickly experience the benefits that homeschool software posesses.
As I’ve mentioned already, some children will learn differently that others. And just as your child has thier own unique interests, so will their idea of a captivating computer game or program. Some children like characters, some children like puzzles. There is no shortage of subjects and topics available these days, so you should pay close attention to your choice in order for your child to get the maximum benefit from your investment in their eduction. This is where the ‘fun’ in homeschooling software comes in – choose something fun for your child, and they can’t help but learn!
Finding a good combination of fun for your child and effective educational value is always a tricky prospect. A number of elements come into play: how your child learns, the curriculum you choose, and how much you want to invest in teaching tools. Your child’s preferences with subjects and type of computer games they prefer will help you choose what software programs will be most effective in your homeschool programme. Combine your child’s preference with your already choosen curriculum to narrow down the subject of software you will look for. Remember, many facets of learning can be addressed – information learning, problem solving, memorization, and creativity. The final factor that will come into play is budget. You might want to try out one or two titles before committing to a whole learning series. Or look for free software, as well as take advantage of non-traditional ‘learning software’ – ie, free graphics programs, or online word games.
An important factor to keep in mind is the interaction with other children that your child misses out on when they are home schooled. An important interaction with normal group schooling is the competitive nature of some of the school events. A fun way to introduce a fun and challenging learning environment that will imitate this competitive aspect is with home school software. Competing against a previous ‘high score’ or achieving the next level is a very strong motivator for competitive kids, and adds an element of fun to their homeschooling day.
Another interesting attribute of learning software is that they are often designed with enough flexibility so that they will suit a wide range of experience levels and learning speeds. The child is able to start out at the level they are currently studying at, and advance virtually at the maximum speed at which they are capable of learning. The combination of interactivity, challenge, and appropriate skill level makes homeschool software a very accessible learning tool which adds fun to your child’s education. The secondary benefit to this adaptability is the ability for you to use the same program for multiple children, regardless of their individual levels and learning styles.
Find out how to find and introduce a fun and effective new teaching tool into your homeschooling curriculum. Visit http://homeschoolsoftware.blogspot.com to discover more homeschool software information and more.
