There is nothing knew about the “engagement conception” with master educators. They have been doing this for years. Any pure educationist who is worthy of being called a teacher realizes that you must engage students in the subject matter being taught if he/she is to have any desire of “educating” students. Contrary to most people’s opinions, home schooling is not just limited to primary school students. In fact, there are many home schooling courses available for college students as well both offline and online.

Home schooling has been gaining more popularity in recent years because parents wanted more control over their child’s education. Parents wanted to oversee what their children is learning and teach them the right way.

There are also afraid of peer influences from other students. They may pick up bad habits such as smoking, alcoholism, gambling and violence etc.

For higher level college education, there are several types of home schooling programs available. It depends on the type of education you prefer your child to undertake. Most home schooling college programs are quite flexible in that the program curriculum can be changed to suit the student rather than the other way around in traditional colleges.

One type is religion college home schooling. They have home schooling curriculum that have religious studies as part of their education.

Another type focus on the science while another focus on the arts. It can also be a combination of the above since college home schooling is quite flexible. You can cater your home schooling curriculum based on the interest of your child.

One thing all these college home schooling programs have in common is that they can be taught at the pace your child is comfortable with. Since each child learns differently and at different pace, the college home schooling program can be altered to suit each child’s learning progress.

There are also college home schooling programs offered in your local area. Some are theme based while others are focused on a particular subject. It will help if you can find yourself aligned with a home schooling group in your local community, if not you can do it online via the numerous homeschooling forums online.

How Your Child Can Make The Transition From Home School To College

]]>

You may be wondering if home schooling is a good idea for a child that has outgrown their youth and are now in their latter teens. As thoughts about college arises and it’s time to think about continued education, some parents feel that attending a public or private high school is necessary for college admission. But this is not true at all.

In fact, Harvard has accepted in the past 2 kids that were home schooled into their degree programs. Most colleges are aware that home schooled kids can have educational advantages as opposed to their counterparts in high school, so they are open to the possibility of accepting home schooled kids.

Most colleges are more interested in the knowledge of the student rather than a diploma, so you should keep this in mind. In fact, some colleges prefer homeschoolers because of the diversity and personality that they bring to the college campus.

Some colleges don’t care about tests at all while some require the use of the SAT. Criteria will vary but you should know that alot of college courses don’t require a high school background.

Even if you think that you should send your kids off to high school, you should know that college is available to your teen via general admission or even attending college online.

Going to college online will further the home schooling experience while allowing you to continue to help your child with their work. It all depends on your child’s preference and learning style. They can attend a college via the comfort of their bedroom, and come out with a 100% valid college education.

You can save on college costs dramatically using this option and your child may even learn better since there are so many audio and visual aids that they be available to them.

Going to college has it benefits and disadvantages but the biggest thing that you need to weigh is whether or not you want to sacrifice your child’s social life for the cost of the education. If you’re child is fine with the fact that they may not meet alot of friends via an online school, and has the “big picture” of life after college in mind – then maybe going to school online is best for them.

Complicated subjects can be immediately handled via the use of online help and resources, so there are alot of advantages to going to college online. To help with your child’s social life, they may want to get a part-time job to earn some income and to meet new friends and mingle. This can make up for lost time at college and will definitely help with their social life.

No matter what you choose, you should know that college is definitely an option for home schoolers. You just have to get the proper paperwork out to apply and your child will be good to go. If you have prepared your child correctly for college and has taught them virtually everything they need to know, then you should have no problems. You should have them take the SAT during their sophomore or junior year to see where they stand from a collegiate level.

Be sure to keep these things in mind when thinking about college for your child. College is definitely an option.

Today’s Average College Costs Contends With Homeschooling Student

Edit Article |

]]>

Ladies and Gentlemen…

In this corner, we have today’s average college costs.

In the other corner, we have the American home schooler who just graduated from high school.

College costs really look bulked up and ready for this fight. The average cost of college in America looks tough to beat.

You are looking at tuition and fees, room and board, out-of-state fees, transportation costs, extra living expenses, and hopefully no legal fees to get bailed out of jail.

The hefty price tag for one year with this seasoned fighter is about $17,000 for the public state colleges.

The scales are really tipping over for the private universities at about $40,000 a year.

The American home schooler has a look of determination in his eyes, though. The word we have from his trainer is that he plans on employing a rather unique strategy.

On the surface folks, this doesn’t look like much of a contest.

There’s the bell!

Today’s average college cost really comes out swinging but this home schooling lad is quick on his feet and a great counter-puncher.

ROUND 1: The home schooler got the edge by using the CLEP testing service to get 30 college credits without paying a dime in tuition and cutting costs by much more than 50%.

ROUND 2: Average college costs is getting winded as his challenger is now using the DANTES testing service in addition to CLEP to attain college credits related to his choice for a bachelor’s degree.

ROUND 3:Things are really looking bad for the university champion as this wise opponent has transferred 90 college credits to a regionally accredited online university.

ROUND 4: The home schooler is the new champion over today’s average college costs with a knock-out by finishing his senior year with on-line classes and is holding his undergraduate high for everyone to see.

The awesome thing about this match is that it is no fantasy.

This strategy is available for all, whether you home school or not.

]]>

You made a decision to remove your child from institutional education. Your decision was based on several very good reasons. And if you are like most homeschooling parents, you were happily rewarded for your decision. Homeschoolers’ grades average two years ahead of public school students’ grades. In addition, homeschooled children have proved to be more socially adaptive than their public school counterparts.

Avoid Dangerous Environments
Each of the reasons you originally had for homeschooling your child are intensified as you consider college. Humanism, rationalism, secularism, and hedonism run rampant on most American campuses, even Christian colleges. Some of these schools have teachers and programs that actively promote these harmful lifestyles. Why suddenly expose your child to these trap-falls? It is important to choose a college that will not put your child in danger or overly expose them to temptation. You can also choose a college that allows you to continue homeschooling.

Continue An Education Method That Works
Additionally, when you homeschooled your child, you personalized their education and made their curriculum specific to the child’s needs and talents. That’s one of the great advantages of homeschooling over traditional education. So, why now expose your child to a learning approach in college that will take him years to overcome (if he ever overcomes it at all)? Why not continue that quality decision to bring superior education directly into your home through books, videos, cassettes, and the internet? Let proven Christian professors help you mentor your child as he emerges into adulthood in the safety and purity of your home, rather than the bastions of humanism and rebellion which pervade most American campuses.

Following God’s Direction
You chose the best, years ago. Now, why not stay with the best decision, and carry out God’s mandate for PARENTS to train up their children? Perhaps God’s way is best after all. We know it sounds far-fetched to our secularized minds. But most of us know that by honoring God’s ways, we come out far ahead in life, regardless of how distanced from current sociological trends God’s principles and ways appear. Why not continue your experiment in educating your child God’s way, and prove to your society that God was right all along?

There Are Other Options
There are many Christian colleges and Christian theology seminaries that offer online or distance learning courses. These options allow your child to continue their studies at home and gain the insight and education from college professors. Additionally, some online Bible colleges offer the LAMAD education format which can allow your child to avoid the flawed traditional education method and excel in their learning.

Just because your child is getting ready to attend college, doesn’t mean that you have to abandon the things that caused you to choose homeschooling in the first place. Do some online searches and find a Christian university which offers online courses and teaches with methods that work.

It is now possible to start your college work at home, which means doing online college home schooling. In the process, you use the internet, and you may earn a few credits or a college diploma through distance learning. Homeschooling college is becoming increasingly popular for a number of reasons. You can actually start your college work through one university and then finish your degree on campus at another.

You can receive study materials for your university projects through the university sites or through links on the internet which can lead to college credit by examination. Some colleges have even developed targeted modularized programs for online college home schooling. In today’s world the learner has the freedom to expand his learning beyond the classroom or textbook.

College Admissions

Before you join college there are several online programs that you can download, which will help your life after home school. The child should learn to find a life direction that matches his interest, values, skills and personality. The convenient online program helps to make self-assessments and the program has college exploration tools.

When a home-schooled applicant applies for a college, his application is seen differently. Some colleges who encourage online college home schooling admit many home schoolers, whereas others refuse all. Therefore all home schoolers need to take special college preparatory classes just like traditional students, because it is not included in the home schooling curriculum.

Degree Program

For online college home schooling, it is possible to get a bachelor’s degree or become an advocate by learning from home. So you can actually finish your bachelor’s degree from wherever you are. If you are part of the Online Bachelor of General Studies Degree Completion Program, then you can enjoy the opportunity and flexibility to study anything that is of interest for you and at the same time earn an undergraduate degree. The program has an accreditation and is therefore very popular as online college home schooling.

Other Reasons

Due to financial restraints it is often not possible for many students to go to college. Most home schoolers complete their under graduation, and learn a vocation. Once they start earning money, it is difficult to give it up and then go back to the student life. But some do not give up easily and pursue an online college home schooling while jobbing all day, so that they can get a university degree.

Also, it is the average student who opts for online college home schooling. The really good ones have taken entrance tests for various colleges and acquired scholarships, so that they are financially relieved. Many home schoolers take to doing home schooling because they were unable to cope with the pressures of school. Hence, it is only a small percentage of home schoolers who opt for online college home schooling.

One big concern about parents who choose to homeschool their children is making sure that they did a good enough job with their child’s education.  No parent wants to go through the effort to find out they didn’t give their child the tools needed to go on to college.

One very important part of college acceptance, especially when you are homeschooled, is having quality scores on the ACT and SAT.  These scores indicate that you learned what you should have learned during the high school years.  If your child gets a high score on these tests, being homeschooled or lacking official credits does not matter so much.  Colleges understand that those scoring highly on these tests are the types of students that can handle college material with ease.

In order for your child to get a good score, you have to start preparing them as needed.  The first bit of preparation is to make sure that you are teaching the subjects that are found on these tests.  Generally speaking they favor high English, Reading, and Math based skills.  If you have done well with these subjects with your child, most of these tests won’t be a problem for him or her at all.

These tests also have a certain format that your child will need to be aware of.  This means that it’s important to take some practice tests so that your child will understand the dynamics of both tests.  There are many practice tests that can be picked up at book stores or online.  These will come in large books with a CD that will also have additional information and more tests.

Before your child takes the SAT or ACT have him or her sit down with these booklets as part of each school day and do some studying.  The interactive CD will help quite a bit since it will quiz and tutor them showing progress or not.  Doing this over time will improve these tests scores considerably.
