A high school diploma is the minimum education that one has to earn to get good job opportunities as well as to go for higher studies. This certificate is awarded to those who successfully complete a high school education and goes for the certificate. Right from your child hood you must have some dreams related to your career, but you must gain right kind of knowledge along with skills, which can help you to reach your goal. So where will you find the knowledge or the proper education to make your dreams come true. The answer is the high school diploma.

There are various options available for one to get a high school diploma, which includes traditional class work, concurrent high school, college enrollment, and distance learning and high school equivalence programs. Thus nowadays earning a high school diploma is quite easy compared to what it was few years ago.

A high school diploma provides you with better openings for job opportunity and higher salary. If you are not interested in a job at an early age you can pursue higher studies in the university, but you need the certificate of high school. You have to complete all the criteria or the requirement of the particular state or province where you reside to get the certificate. Each state has its own terms and conditions, for example, in some state the diploma are categorized in 3 forms where the first level is for students who complete graduation with honors, in the second level students with distinction and last level is for students who have just passed the credits to receive the certificate.

If you didn’t have the opportunity to earn a high school diploma don’t be upset. You can still do that with GED program, or the General Educational Development program. This program offers diplomas though you may also find other types of accredited schools which offer students extended diplomas. Nowadays you can find high school diploma programs on Internet. Those who lack time or want to study from home can opt for online high school diplomas and the programs are also good for those who are not able to attend regular classes.

Online high school programs allow the students to choose the subjects according to their wish. These programs are flexible as far as time and place are concerned. Online diploma offers you the facility to learn at any place of your choice. Students can communicate with the teachers and their classmates through messages and through online chatting.

If we review data, around 60% of jobs in United States require people with good education and training while higher institutions want people with basic qualifications. Thus a high school diploma is a kind of gateway for further education and to get better salaried jobs. It doesn’t matter whether you receive your diploma in your early years or later either by going back and attending the classes or online, but remember that with age the learning zeal tends to slow down.

Achieving dreams and ambitions in your life is more important so don’t drop your high school but complete your education and look for a better lifestyle.

Before choosing between home schooling and public schooling for your child, you need to be aware of the advantages and disadvantages of both. Being well informed is very essential in making the correct choice.

Advantages of Public Schools

The main advantage of public schools is the constant social interaction that the child is exposed to. This develops and immeasurably improves his social skills. You can involve the child in social activities, while home schooling as well. However, none of this may provide all the different levels of interaction that a traditional school provides. Being part of the same group for several years and interacting with teachers, staff, seniors and peers, prepares the child for life in the adult world. Home schooling deprives the child of close interpersonal relationship with peers and possibly, lifelong friendships.

Sending the child to a traditional school also gives you more time for other things, like your career and household chores. Home schooling can be very time consuming, since the parents have to be with the child through the lessons, not to mention correcting the worksheets and designing activities and audiovisual aids. The expenditure incurred can pose a problem. Although home schooling is generally less expensive in terms of tuition fees, the time you require to spend with the child generally implies your staying at home. In families that need a double income to run smoothly or in event of a divorce marriage break-up etc, this might become a problem. Having to decide which parent sacrifices their career can also lead to mental and emotional stresses at home that are not good for the child.

Homeschooling Advantages

The main advantage of home based schooling flexibility. Learning periods can be adjusted to your schedule and lessons can be created to better suit your child’s aptitude and learning style. Homeschooling s a dynamic process and allows changes to be made to the curriculum. This makes it easier for the child to learn at his/her own pace. The learning activities can be structured more practically. Being an unstructured program, it allows parents to develop lessons that are fun, increasing the childs eagerness to learn.

Homeschooling is also less expensive and public schools and especially private schools can be very costly. The money saved, can be used for social activities and field trips for the child to help develop their social skills. Socialization problems can be avoided by extending the program and allowing the child adequate interaction with other kids. A good idea is regular trips to a public park, or enrollment in a sports league.

Many parents in the US feel that public schools are inadequate and do not challenge the children enough. Their standards of education are also in question. In fact, there are many examples of kids having gone all the way through high school, and actually graduated, without even being able to read properly. Schools are increasingly seen as unsafe with kids bringing in guns and knives. There is also a raging debate over the gangs and the drug issues in most schools. In addition, the size of the classrooms has increased to the point of being impossible. No student can hope for any personal attention in such a large set-up. And finally, many faith-based families are being upset by sex education, handing out of condoms and abortions without parental notification in the public school system.

The Cost of Many Educational Resources Is About to Drop!

Whether you homeschool your children or send your kids to private or public school, most moms are always looking for good education resources for their kids. Unfortunately, many of those resources are very expensive.

But here’s some great news: Many educational resources are about to cost a lot less!

In fact, they won’t cost you a dime! Here’s how:

You may have heard about new technology called “open source.” Open-source software is essentially free for anyone who wants to use it. You can download it on your computer. And, if you know how to program it, you can customize it to fit your company’s needs.

Well, educational resources are about to go open source. Scott McNealy, the former chairman of Sun Microsystems (a huge software manufacturer), is in the process of developing a new website that will offer education materials at no cost.

The new website is called curriki.com. It gets its name from a play on the words “curriculum” and “wiki.” A wiki is a website that is put together through the collaboration of many different people. The most popular use of the word is in the name of website Wikipedia, the online encyclopedia that’s also open source.

McNealy’s hope is that curriki.com will make many expensive textbooks go the way of the dinosaur. A non-profit organization (called Curriki) will run the website. The company will provide content. But the users will provide a lot of the content.

While the site won’t be Christian in nature, Christians will be able to use the site and make adjustments to correct inaccuracies. When asked how the site will handle touchy issues like evolution vs. creationism, McNealy said, “Open source. So if a religious school wants to strike all this … just take it out. It’s open source — you can cut and paste, you can use the pieces you want and create your own textbook.” With curriki.com, you will have the final say on what your kids learn.

The website is up and running, but there isn’t much on the site. Curriki plans to develop it over time, so check it often. Because of its flexibility, it’s quite possible the site will revolutionize education. At the very least, it will bring a new level of competition to the education market that it’s lacked. And, best of all, it will give you much needed resources at an unbeatable price.

Educating Your Family and Friends About Your Decision to Home-School

Edit Article |

While your decision to home school is uniquely your own, it is great if you have the support of your family and friends too. Unfortunately, getting your friends and family on board can sometimes be challenging. For the uninitiated, home schooling can be a new and strange concept, even though we, as a society, have actually been home schooling for centuries. And, despite the current growing popularity of home schooling due to failing schools, limited educational choices, and schoolyard bullying, home education still has a lot of stigma attached.

If your family and friends are not familiar with the many benefits of an education at home, they may bring up every argument and stereotype they’ve heard to convince you that you should send your child to school. It is important to remember that most of these concerned interjectors will be people who care about you, and have perhaps not been exposed to the many positives of home schooling.

You need to determine why it is that you want to home school your family, and to consider (and answer) the following questions:

“How will your child know how to interact with their peers?” “Why are you afraid of the school system?”

“What about socialisation?”

“What about the overall school experiences that help children develop into adults?”

“What about sports and other activities?”

“Are you sure you can teach your child all that they need to learn?”

“Teaching is a highly professional skill, can you do it?”

“Sounds expensive, how can you manage the books and the cost?”

“You’re going to quit work? What about your career?”

In many cases, unless your friends and family home schooled themselves, they are going to assume that the “normal” way to educate children, the way that they understand and are familiar with, will be superior. If that is the case, you may experience quite significant pressure to conform to a standard public or private education. By doing your research first, using resources such as “Getting Started in Homeschooling”, you can put their concerns to rest and help yourself to stand firm.

Rebuttals are simple. Firstly, you can talk about taking control of your child’s education. You can also talk about how you want to have the most time you can with you child. As for activities and socialisation, you can address that by showing them the community based activities that your child can participate in.

And if we don’t sacrifice for our children who are we going to sacrifice for?

Keeping your lesson plans, curriculum, and other teaching materials at hand is a great way to show that not only are you ready, but you are serious about teaching your child. You can also show them the various options for homeschooling and demonstrate the flexibility and the customisation of education for your child over the “one-size-fits-all” solution at the local public school.

To encourage your family and friends to fully support your position, you may consider including them in the education process.  For instance, if they speak a language, or have a specific skill your child might be interested in, ask them if they would consider teaching your child about that topic.  Involvement can be an effective tool to get family on board. If they still are not interested, be prepared to move forward without them. The most important thing to remember is that the choice is about you and your children, not your extended family.

Homeschooling is not always easy.  Like the rest of life, it has its hard days too. Fortunately, there is plenty of support available, whether it comes from your family, or whether it’s from one of the many online and offline homeschooling support groups available.  Since the internet became readily available to everyone, homeschooling families have been able to reach out and encourage other similarly inclined families the world over.

Few Facts About Online High School Diploma

A High School Diploma has become necessary in today’s competitive world. A person needs to be well educated to make a mark for himself/herself in the economic sector. A High school diploma is the first of several stepping-stones to reach your goal. It has been observed that those who hold a High school diploma are more likely to get jobs than those who don’t. Infact, a High school diploma has become minimum educational requirement these days.

In present times, a great number of teenagers are acquiring their High school diploma online. There are a number of reasons that have made online High school diploma very popular. It has become an option for those students who are not able to attend regular schools due to health reasons, or are unable to cope up with the traditional educational setting, or are slow/very fast learners, thus do not fit in the same group, or need to set their education around their career which is more demanding and time consuming compared to their studies.

Finding a school that offers quality courses in online High school diploma can be a challenging job. There are many schools that make high claims but do not meet the standards. There are two types of online schools that offer online diplomas: public and private. Public online schools have to abide by the state and national rules and regulations.

Private online schools are free from any such rules and regulations and work in a similar fashion as the traditional private schools. They have there own learning philosophy and set of rules and regulations and stick to the same. This can vary greatly from one school to other. Tuition fee is often high in such schools as they charge the parents for all costs that are involved in the education of their child. This also includes software and hardware required for their child’s education.

A parent should always follow a cross check before enrolling his/her child in a private online school. A proper regional association should accredit a private online school. If not, then parents are advised to check with the academic advisors of various colleges to see if those colleges accept the school’s transcript, in case the child wants to attend college. There are also many well-established universities that have started offering online High school diplomas. Since, these universities have been in the educational scenario for quite a few years, they can be a safe bet for a child’s online High school diploma.

Online charter schools offer a very good option for those who have constrained pockets and can’t send their child to a regular school or are not able to afford expensive public or private online schools. These schools are funded by the state government and thus do not charge any sort of education fee for the child. Additionally, these rules provide more freedom from government control. Parents should look out for the presence of such schools in their states, as all states do not have online charter schools. It is easy to search for such schools in an online public charter schools directory.

Before enrolling a child for an online High school diploma from a public or private online school, it is advised to do a complete cross check for the claims of the school. One should also find out if any authentic regional board accredits the school. Lastly, one should make sure that his/her child is mentally and academically prepared to attend such course. It is difficult for some students to be away from the social scenario of school and concentrate on studies amidst household chaos. If this does not stand as a problem for your child, then an online High school diploma is the best bet for your child’s secure educational future.

Home schooling is very different from a regular high school in many ways. One of the main differences is that the teenager is educated away from the conventional environment of a high school. This may be a good thing or a bad thing as per the situation. Listed below are some of the differentiating points.

One on one teaching

Homeschooling is a one on one teaching method. Here the complete focus of the educator, parent, or tutor is the student. The student’s mind is stimulated much more than in normal high school situation as he is encouraged to seek answers for himself.

Complete control over the curriculum

Parents and students control everything that is taught. They can decide the courses based on their values and morals, include religious beliefs, and so on. This system is extremely beneficial for families who have strong religious beliefs.

Head Start on College

Many teens include college courses in their home school curriculum. They can design their program as per the requirement of the career they want to take up. This gives them an edge over other students studding in high school.

Limited Peer Pressure

Removed from the-constant peer pressure in schools, most homeschooled teens are well behaved and well mannered. They grow up respecting their parents. Students can be themselves without worrying about their peers. They get the opportunity to spread their wings and explore their creativity. .

Customized curriculum

Homeschoolers need not be limited to curriculum at a set grade level. They can determine the courses that match their skills and abilities. Students finish the course in the time frame that suits their learning standards. They may finish senior high school level English in junior year itself while continuing junior level moths in senior year. Also, your child has the freedom to pursue his interests in other areas of studies and take credit for the same.

Flexibility

The demands of a working family require that study schedules for children remain flexible. Several kids are more involved in activities like sports, dance, or acting. In these cases, a flexible study program suits them best. The greatest advantage about homeschooling is that it allows families to remain just that, a family, and at the same time meet all the demands of daily life, individually.

Tackling problems as a family

Sometimes a situation may arise where the family may need all the support from within itself. The reasons can be anything ranging from drug abuse, to slipping grades to a family tragedy. Research has shown that parents can prevent a teenager from abandoning studies completely by home schooling him. It is a great time to bond as a family, build confidence, and instill character.

To sum up, the advantages of homeschooling seem to outweigh the disadvantages. The flexibility, instilling of morals and values, and most of all quality time with the family are enough to raise a green monster in anybody. How you handle the system is entirely up to you. You have various options, so go ahead and decide on what suits you best.

PostHeaderIcon Thinking about Homeschooling Programs?

Because the turmoil with the economy drags on it’s now directly influencing many of the country’s education systems in the form of ageing buses not getting replaced, falling apart educational facilities not getting repaired correctly and even laying off numerous staff including instructors. In this different economic reality more and more parents are looking at the many homeschooling programs as a possible alternative to teach their children.

Although many don’t realize it, homeschooling programs were the norm and far from the exception for most of the country’s history. Because of the challenges in commuting over any appreciable distance formal schools had been confined to the largest cities and children living on farms and in small villages were almost always educated at home. In fact, several of the founding fathers were home schooled because there simply was not any other reasonable option.

In the U.S., homeschooling programs are lawful in all 50 states. Even though the Supreme Court has never decided precisely about homeschooling programs, the court has decided that, “while a State may posit education standards, it may not pre-empt the educational process by requiring children to attend public schools”. Nevertheless, each state has certain minimum conditions that homeschooling programs are required to meet. There are few commonalities between the states in these requirements and a parent should check with their specific state office of education regarding their own particular conditions.

The motivations for home schooling families have been detailed by the U.S. Department of Education in 2003. In their study “Homeschooling in the United States: 2003″ it was observed that 85 per cent of parents who homeschooled mentioned “the social environments of other forms of schooling” as significant to the reason why they decided to home school. 68 percent mentioned “dissatisfaction with academic instruction at other schools”.

Other direct benefits of homeschooling programs include:

(A) Perfect Teacher-to-Student Ratio – Individuals who are home schooled benefit from much a lot more personalized attention than do individuals in conventional schools.

(B) Rapid, Personalized Feedback – The lower student to teacher ratio will allow for successful two way communications about assignments or difficulties.

(C) Programs tailored to the Student-A course load personalized to the individual student enables the pupil to establish their individual pace. To put it differently, the scholar can easily work through a session as slowly or quickly as they’re at ease with.

(D) Significantly Fewer Distractions – Learners in homeschooling programs are usually ready to concentrate only on the task in front of them with out external interruptions.

Exchanging the traditional school environment with homeschooling offers both the parents and the learner with choices that aren’t readily available for the families taking part in conventional schooling techniques. Homeschooling programs permit families to be in control of the education and learning material used and to make advised judgements about what most effectively accommodates their needs.
