Getting A High School Diploma: Know Your Options

Edit Article |

]]>

High school diploma is the quintessence of modern life and without it you will live your life struggling for survival. The high school phase is one where you can live your life to the fullest and make friends and grow up with them. You can also route a way to college. If you drop out from school then this would be the biggest mistake of your life, which generally kids who are young make.

In life whatever challenges or struggles you face, you should never opt out of high school, as it is the most important phase of your life. Recent research has shown that a high school graduate earns more than a drop out. A complete college education equips a person to lead life smoothly as compared to the school dropout. Nowadays getting a well-paid job is very competitive and not easy when you see the qualifications of your competitor. There are different ways to acquire school diploma so dont take hasty decisions and be sure to consider all the options before you drop out.

Earn high school diploma at home, online

Nowadays many kids across the country prefer staying at home and studying. So if you wish to earn a high school diploma without moving out of your house try the online GED course. Getting your GED is very a good way to make up the loss of the diploma. You can appear the GED test from any official center that is nearest to you. The GED test is intended to test your skills in five main subjects; Math, Science, Reading, Writing and Social Studies. A good website will provide you with all the information required for GED, but there are some basic things which you need to consider before opting for online school diploma.

. Find a recognized online high school and not just a program, which is approved by the state.

. Thoroughly check the background history of the online school and about the courses offered.

. Compare the price difference between online college course and the regular college course.

. Beware of some fake colleges and online schools.

. State department of education offers free programs but does not offer diplomas, so before enrolling gather all the details or the online colleges.

Normal route to 4-year high school diploma

The normal route to gain a high school diploma can be achieved only if you go to school for four years and then earn the required credits to graduate. You may be required to attend regular classes for subjects like history, math etc, but you also have an option to select subjects like auto shop, music, drafting, ceramics etc. High school requires minimum 6 classes per semester. If you dont have a school diploma then you are not eligible to join any college. It is true that sometimes high schooling can be dragging, but you must learn to enjoy it and make the most of the education. Think many times before dropping out from school, talk to your mentor, friends and family.

High School Diploma: Get The Facts Right

]]>

There are a lot of reasons for which you may be interested in earning a High School Diploma online. There may be a possibility that your house is quite far from the area where there is a school or where it is quite difficult to travel from on a daily basis. Or there could be a situation where you are suffering from some kind of health problem that does not permit you to sit in classrooms to attend lectures day after day. You could also be the kind of person that does not do well in the usual educational surroundings and could learn in a much better way in your very own surrounding and on your own conditions as well.

There are a few people who really need special learning and require personal attention. However, this cannot be done in a jam-packed classroom. In that case there are some people who have additional main interests such as acting, art, music etc, and as a result they must have their classes properly lined up around these commitments. Through the progress made in E-learning technology, online education has turned out to be an extremely practical as well as useful opportunity.

Prior to making up your mind to opt for an online High School Diploma, it would be an excellent idea to think about all the advantages as well as disadvantages of online learning and make sure if it is or is not appropriate for you. There are a lot of false impressions regarding an online education and, instead of getting into something with a false speculation, make an attempt to get a clear picture regarding all the things that it entails.

There are a few positive points about attempting a High School Diploma online. You get a chance to concentrate and learn the subjects chosen for the High School Diploma from the calm environment of your own house. You do not have to spend your precious time and money in conveyance going to a school campus that is far off. You can put together your very own timetable for your studies and work at whatever time you feel is suitable for you. There are lectures that are completely carried out online and communicating with professors and fellow students is done by way of voice mail, email, chat, text messages and forums. Due to all these things you would be able to know how to firmly find your way around the Internet and increase concrete technological knowledge in making use of the most up-to-date computers as well as software.

As the most important part of the online communication is the written form, you would be able to work on your writing as well as spelling abilities. Students who take part in online High School Diploma programs hail from all over the nation and at times from across the globe as well. Working as well as communicating along with them would train you how to successfully deal with an extensive range of people. This would be quite useful in the long run while you get to enhance your career prospects.

If the online institute providing your High School Diploma has a genuine official recognition from an appropriate provincial organization, you would not have any kind of difficulty in taking a step to further seek admission in a normal University education afterwards. As a matter of fact, a lot of the most important colleges, as well as the Ivy League ones, these days provide online programs in addition to their usual courses.

Cost-effective Tutoring in Tough Economic Times

]]>

In these tough economic times it is important that parents take a realistic look at their finances and create a budget they can stick to. In theory, this is good advice, but often parents are forced to make difficult choices.

Most important are those expenses that absolutely need to be paid, such as rent, car payment, insurance and utilities. Then there are the items that fall into the category of luxury vs. necessity.  We all want the best for our children and want to provide whatever help they need to succeed in school. But these days the cost of a weekly private tutor can be prohibitive.

A private one-hour tutoring session costs from $30 – $45 per hour and much more in large cities.  The price of taking your child to one of the national learning centers also varies, but you can expect to pay $200 - $400 per month. Fortunately, with the advent of the internet, more affordable options are now available to parents, such as one-on-one online tutoring and online tutoring software companies. Both are a good option for children who enjoy using computers, and they have the added time-saving convenience of learning in the comfort of your home.

Online tutoring is interactive one-on-one tutoring via the Internet. Usually an online diagnostic test is given to determine the kind of help a child needs. Then the child works with a live, online teacher who customizes a study plan based on the results of the diagnostic test. Tutor and student communicate via instant messaging and interactive whiteboards. Sessions run from $20 – $30 per hour, which is less costly than a private tutor. In addition, some online tutoring companies have unlimited tutoring packages which run approximately $150 per month. Many provide money-back guarantees if your child is not satisfied with a session.

Online tutoring software is similar to tutoring with a live tutor except that it is completely software driven and costs significantly less. Most start out with a placement test, after which the child receives an individualized learning plan to meet his or her academic needs. Some have game-like activities and motivational characters that interact with children in a fun and engaging way. Monthly costs vary from $16 - $25. Many have free trials, so the program can be tried for free to see if it works for your child.

These are challenging economic times, but online tutoring programs could be a viable and practical option for parents who want to give their children the extra help they need. Take advantage of a Free Trial offer to see if the program is one your child will benefit from and enjoy. It is definitely worth a try and you have nothing to lose!

Using Catalogues For Home Decoration

Edit Article |

Posted: Feb 25, 2010 |

]]>

Plenty homeowners use home decorating catalogs to order items to make improvements to their home or to get home decorating ideas. Home decorating catalogs usually provide photos of complete rooms and the opportunity to purchase any or all of the items used to create the room. For people who are not creative, these catalogs are great resources for decorating tips for their home. If money is not a problem, they could buy everything featured in the home decorating catalog to create the exact same room in their own home.

Home decorating catalogs are normally made available by major department stores, building centers and home décor shops. These stores provide customers the option of visiting the store to purchase merchandise, some will provide a delivery service or mail service and others have online home decorating catalogs available to shop from. Home decorating catalogs are published for the benefit of the customer. These publications entice people to visit the stores hopefully with the intention to buy. Many stores send their home decorating catalogs to customer through the mail. Providing information regarding location and telephone numbers, people can easily access their stores.

People can get a mental image of what their space could look like by looking at the vivid pictures in home decorating catalogs. These books provide hours of enjoyment for people who are fascinated with new trends in home decorating. Providing examples of new colors and new accessories, home decorating catalogs offer people an opportunity to stay in touch with fashion and even explore new possibilities for their space.

Home decorating is usually divided into different categories regarding style. Some of these styles or themes include country, French country, English country, modern, traditional, Oriental, Victorian and old world. Each of these themes would have an individual section in home decorating catalogs. These individual sections focus on furniture, color, fabric and accessories which relate to the theme. If a homeowner was interested in changing the theme in their home from country to Oriental, browsing through home decorating catalogs would provide useful information and an opportunity to purchase items to help transform their home.

Online home decorating catalogs provide people an even better opportunity to look at available merchandise. The Internet, with its capabilities is equipped to provide enhanced images. With this in mind, a person would be able to get a clearer image of the items in an online home decorating catalog. Not only would online home decorating catalogs provide better images but they are very convenient. Online shopping is quickly catching on in society today. More and more people are taking advantage of the convenience offered through shopping online. Without leaving the comfort of home, a person can spend hours browsing online home decorating catalogs. If they find an item or group of items they’d like to purchase, they can do so online. With methods of payment such as credit card, Paypal or C.O.D., people can order what they need or want from online home decorating catalogs. Home decorating catalogs, either online or a publication, provide people with access to everything they need to improve a room or their entire home.

Many parents are unaware about when they can start homeschooling their child. In fact, a no minimum age criterion has been specified for home schooling. Whenever you decide to begin home schooling your child, you may do so. However, you need to acquaint yourself with state requirements for home schooling. If your child has gone through some traditional schooling, you must determine his need at the time of transition. One of the best things about home schooling is that the age of the child has very little to do with the curriculum chosen.

Generally, children who are educated via home schooling are those who have some traditional school background. Parents who decide to home school their child, generally find the new school and classroom inadequate, in terms of being able to provide a proper atmosphere, intellectually challenging for the child, allowing him to reach his full potential. When the child has gone through a traditional school, it is essential to consult the institution and get the childs records in order, to assess the childs educational level and performance in school. This would enable you to choose a fitting curriculum that would adequately address his home schooling need.

If you have decided to home school your child from an age that is below the normal schooling age, you need not go through any prior consultation. Just make sure that you follow the correct procedure for home schooling, as prescribed by your state. For example, if the state requires prior information about your intentions to home school your child, you must follow the guidelines and any other specified requirements.

Many people express concern on the fact that home schooling a child is not age dependent. There are many parents who move their children out of the traditional schooling model in order to provide an age appropriate curriculum. Home schooling on the other hand is concerned with the intellectual appropriateness of the child and not his age.

In the traditional schooling methods, all the children in a particular grade are required to follow a standard curriculum that does not take into account their individual intellectual levels. In homeschooling, as a parent you can decide on which aspect of your childs education needs more time and attention and what would be the appropriate material required fulfilling that need. If your child is above average and is capable of taking on more complex and advanced material, you can go ahead with the advanced home schooling curriculum.

The home schooling system is based on merit rather than on age. It also lets you design a curriculum that is suited to the preference and ability of the child. It would allow him to grow as an individual, instead of making him follow some generalized curriculum applicable to a particular age group only.

Traditional schools encourage an atmosphere where children are amidst peers of the same age group. This results in age-based socialization. In home schooling, the child interacts freely with all the people in the community and this gives him greater exposure to opportunities and experience, to develop as per his emotional and intellectual maturity.

Home Schooling: Its Advantages

As the years weigh on, more and more parents are losing confidence on the educational systems be it in a private or public school. There is the sad reality of unqualified teachers, classrooms that are overcrowded, the use of outdated resources such as textbooks and references plus the concern of safety with school violence and drugs being rampant. These negative factors have given rise to the emerging popularity of having children homeschooled.

At the start, parents transferred their children from the public schools to the private schools in order to combat the negative peer influences and practices in the public school system but then came to realize that the same problems still existed even in the private school. Currently home schooling has been embraced by many parents that the rate of children being homeschooled is growing.

Home schooling obviously has many advantages. First and foremost is giving parents peace of mind knowing that their children are in a safe learning environment not having to worry about what pressing negative and unwanted influences may have affected the child’s day at school. The parent is now in total control of the child’s academic progress instead of relying on the school system that he or she may not have confidence in.

The home environment may be an ideal set-up for learning with the overcrowded classrooms and the disruptive students in class that may affect the learning process. Children learn in a less threatening environment where they do not fear terror teachers and other students. Also, school’s lax policies may let some students with terrible behavior for instance the bullies get away with their improper actions with the school not actually protecting the students’ rights.

The child is now under the supervision of the parents who can dictate their academic course. In a home schooling setup, the child and parent teacher proceeds at their speed and more focus can be directed on subjects that the child has difficulty as compared to other subjects that the child easily grasps.

With home schooling, the parents have the choice. One of them could teach the child himself or herself with the many available home schooling resources and materials or the parents could opt to hire educational services via the web or through closed circuit television. It is their choice and their call.

For those having children with any learning disability or cognitive disability, the parent is given the opportunity to work closely with the child’s academic study coming off as easy on the part of the child and focusing on those certain subjects where the difficulty lies.

Parents desiring to give their children a religious education without the necessity of sending them off to a private school can work around the home schooling program to tailor it as encompassing their theological beliefs.

Home schooling indeed has its advantages but before any parent for that matter should rush into it, it is essential to assess the parent’s teaching ability plus planning and strong commitment is very important to ensure the child’s home schooling education.

Graduation Announcement and Graduation Invitations!

Whether you are the one earning your diploma or degree or you are the proud parent of someone who has reached this milestone in life, celebrating should be a big deal. By sending out Graduation Announcement, http://www.graduationcardsshop.com you can ask for friends and family members to share this special event with you. Plus, it’s a great excuse to throw a wonderful party and to accept some very nice gifts. If you ever needed a good excuse to continue your education, the benefits associated with commencement invitations should convince you that it’s well worth the effort. Below are some issues to keep in mind as you get started on these Graduation Invitations, http://www.cardsshoppe.com

As you are shopping for online invites and announcements cards, look for the printed stationery shoppes that offer these advantages

Choosing Guests

If you’re wondering who should be invited to the graduation celebration, open house or to the graduation ceremony itself, the answer can depend on specific factors. For example, many schools have limits on how many family members can be invited to the ceremony because seating is often limited. In that case, your family may need to make some important decisions about which people get to attend and which do not. However, most people will be very understanding about the situation, especially if they are invited to attend the reception. Make sure to have someone film the ceremony so it can be shown or distributed, possibly at the party.

In terms of who can attend the party itself, you’ll first need to decide how much you can spend and what type of event you want to send these printed graduate invites for. You might prefer a more intimate event with just a few close friends and most of your immediate family or you could throw a huge bash with dozens of truckloads of guests. The choice is up to the graduate and the person paying the bill for the event. In either case, we have several grad thank you cards to choose from!

Additionally, it’s a good idea to start thinking about these choices in advance. Unless you’re having the party at home, you need to make arrangements in advance to make sure you can secure the space you want for the day and time you want it. Remember this is a busy time for many party-related venues. Before you make a decision and send out invite graduation party, consider learning more about the graduation open house party.

Some Other Important Tips to Remember

Many post-graduation parties are going to involve alcohol, even if the guests are still under 21. If you’re hosting the event, you need to know about the legal consequences of having drinking at your party. Obviously, when the guests aren’t legally allowed to drink, alcohol should not even be an option. You could face big legal problems and lawsuits from parents if such an activity goes on at your party. Even if the guests are over 21, you may want to be careful about serving alcohol because you can be held liable if someone gets into an accident on the way home. Plus, you need a liquor license to serve alcohol in some venues. The best thing is either to have no alcohol or to have guests bring their own alcohol. Make sure you specify your decision on the invite. Obviously, drinking does not need to be mentioned on graduation announcement, http://www.express-invitations.com/graduation-announcements/

If you know drinking will be a part of the event, keep everyone safe by renting a limo or a party van that can be used to deliver intoxicated guests safely to their home. Make sure to mention this on your graduation announce if you choose to do it.

Interdisciplinary Lesson Planning

]]>

Interdisciplinary teaching may sound like a elaborate concept, but it is really a great way to save time and combine resources.  The word interdisciplinary refers to the use of two or more subjects (disciplines).  So, basically, interdisciplinary teaching is about showing relationships between subject with one given topic.  Showing relationships between subjects helps children connect their “homework” to real life.  Kids get excited when they can connect a topic from one subject to the next.  It keeps them interested in learning more.  So, how does one get started planning something like this?  I often find that starting with a book helps.

One of my favorite interdisciplinary units focuses on the children’s  historical fiction novel, The Watsons Go to Birmingham:  1963 by Christopher Paul Curtis.  In short, this is a story about an African American family that lives in Flint, Michigan in the year 1963.  They story takes them through the winter in Flint and then on to Birmingham, Alabama in the summer.  I use the book to come up with activities for many subjects.  Of course, reading is covered by reading the novel.  Language arts is covered through vocabulary words and discussion of slang. I bring social studies in with civil rights and history lessons about what it was like in Birmingham in 1963 and by mapping the family took to get to Birmingham.  Math is connected to real life by calculating the distance from Flint to Birmingham, comparing how much gas would have cost them in 1963 as compared to today, and figuring out how long it would take the Watsons to make their trip traveling at 1963′s highways speeds.  Science can be covered by comparing the climate of Flint to the climate of Birmingham.  These are just a sampling of the many activities you can get from just one book.

It is so much fun to make interdisciplinary connections between core subjects and the arts. For example, teaching an interdisciplinary unit connecting chemistry with art may help to reach a student who doesn’t have a lot of interest in science, but is a lover of art.  Creating connections between math and music will not only make math fun, but may foster a love for music in your logical-mathematical child.  In turn, it could open up an interest in math for your aspiring musician. LessonPathways.com has an amazing variety of online resources that you, as a homeschooling parent, or as a teacher can use to create an interdisciplinary unit.  The site has a search function allows you to search using keywords or to search by subject area or age level.  You can then assign individual Pathways to your child to create you own interdisciplinary unit.

She grew wild, wild but innocent
A perfect prayer in a desperate hour

Stupid boy, it’s like holding back the wind
she laid her heart and soul right in your hands
And you stole her every dream and you crushed her plans

Homeschool Transcripts and Public Schools

There is no guarantee that a public high school will accept the credits a homeschool transcript. It’s very easy to pull a child out of public school to homeschool them. It’s more difficult to put them BACK into public school.

Exclusive schools for him/her vs. Co-educational

It is said that boys and girls excel better if they are educated separately during their teenage years. This is according to best of both worlds: the coordinate theory. For parents, this is a better way of keeping their children focused. Coeducation has been the most common form of classroom for most schools around the globe. These days, more and more children are being sent to exclusive schools for boys or girls. Their parents have varied reasons of making that decision.

Teaching Writing That’s Fun to Read

“I’m going to tell you about…” Seeing this phrase at the beginning of a paragraph/essay/research paper is, to me, the equivalent of fingernails on a chalkboard. Using Multiple Assessments

TEST! This word strikes fear into the hearts of many a child. For that matter, a lot of adults experience a mild form of post-traumatic stress when they hear that four-letter word. Testing, or assessment of what your child has learned does not have to be a stomach-churning, fear-inducing event. The use of multiple assessment methods is becoming increasingly popular in both public schools and home schools.

NETS, or National Educational Technology Standards is a list of standards compiled by members of the ISTE (International Society for Technology in Education). They have broken down the standards into several groups, one of which is NETS for Students. You will find some highlights* of those standards below.

Kids revise Math concepts with games!

Hours of Math enrichment can be played out through the simple use of Math games. Kids of 7-12 years love games and the mention of ‘Games’ for Mathematics class can generate a lot of excitement. Throw in a bit of small rewards, your children or students can willingly revise Math with you for hours! Just as young children have tremendous amounts of energy and motivation for competitive games such as sports or video game, you can see the same spirit in them as they try their best to beat you to a round of Math game.

Most of the Math printables available online are topically focused, and can be easily played in any class setting, as long as everyone has a pencil or pen. They may be used by class teachers, private tutors, or even parents. Some of the better games have variations in difficulty levels that allow it to be played not only between students themselves, but even between students and an educator.

The games can be especially beneficial if students are able to play it amongst themselves. After introducing a game of multiplication in lesson, the prospect of a challenge amongst friends will motivate students to brush up on the relevant Mathematical skills. They can then hold little intellectual battles (constructive ones of course) after school or even in between lessons.

In one instance, after playing a multiplication game with a class, the children were so excited that they pestered me relentlessly for copies of the game (on photocopied sheets) so that they could play amongst themselves. I was even more surprised when some students who were previously not interested in Math at all started learning their Times Table in order to challenge and beat their friends to the game.

Making Pen and Paper Math games available to students is an excellent way of allowing students to revise or learn at their own rate. Moreover, it comes only at the sacrifice of time which students would otherwise use to play Tic-Tac-Toe or Connect 4. It would be more advantageous if elements of Math can be included in their play time, without making it too obvious that they are actually studying. This gives them the chance to revise their basic Math skills and everyone stands to gain. Not only are students happy, but their teachers and parents as well. Although it may take some effort initially to explain the rules and specifics of the Math games to students, the reward that follows is well worth it. Most importantly however, is that this simple use of games can inspire learning easily.

Singapore’s Perspective of Singapore Math

Cramming Vs Regular Revision

One of the best ways in which you can prepare for examinations or tests is through Regular Revision. Cramming, on the contrary, is the equivalent of suicide! Cramming, or the act of doing a one-time, last-minute intensive revision a few days prior to the exam, is extremely ineffective and imparts a lot of stress to the student.
